About
Kent Matthies, LMFT, MDiv
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Pennsylvania

I believe therapy is most effective when it is grounded in warmth, presence, and genuine human connection. My work is shaped by decades of experience walking alongside people during times of change, loss, growth, and renewal.
For over 25 years, I provided pastoral care as an ordained Unitarian Universalist Minister, supporting individuals, couples, and families through life transitions, relationship challenges, grief, and personal transformation. This work deeply informed my understanding of how people make meaning, build resilience, and seek connection during both difficult and hopeful seasons of life.
Alongside this, I have over 12 years of training and experience in mindfulness leadership, working with individuals and groups to cultivate awareness, emotional balance, and compassion. Mindfulness continues to be a central part of my therapeutic approach, helping clients slow down, better understand themselves, and respond to life with greater intention.
My work with addiction and recovery is also informed by lived experience. With 35 years of personal sobriety from alcoholism, I bring both professional knowledge and deep respect for the courage it takes to pursue recovery. I have worked closely with individuals and families affected by addiction, offering support that is compassionate, grounded, and non-judgmental.
I completed the Post-Graduate Program in Marriage and Family Therapy at the Council for Relationships, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the state of Pennsylvania. Today, I am grateful to bring these experiences together in my own private practice, offering therapy that is thoughtful, effective, and deeply human.
